There used to be this thing in the Pommy papers about hearing the first cuckoo of Spring.
So, today is the first day of Spring and not a friggin' cuckoo to be heard.
Coupla strange aviforms in the garden this arvo but.
Thought they were bleached Willy Wagtails (Rhipidura leucophrys) but no, they were your actual Jacky Winter (Microeca fascinans).
Known by the fabulous German name Weißschwanzschnäpper -- and obviously a bit out of its normal range.
Wonder why?
