Songs From Blowie River #4

Didn't have much trouble setting this one to music.
The tune was already done for me by Peter Dodds McCormick.

Kiwi Fruit

Australia’s a great importer,
As most folk understand,
And with its wool and cattle
It buys from every land;
The digger loves his foreign car,
He loves his foreign suit,
But most of all, I tell you mate,
He loves his kiwi fruit.

Electronic games from Japan
And video cassettes,
Long Indian cotton dresses
And French-made cigarettes,
Tanker loads of Irish Guinness,
Deodorant by Brut,
The Aussie’d give ’em all away
To keep his kiwi fruit.

‘Raise you tinnies to New Zealand,’
Is every Aussie’s call,
‘Of Australia’s trading partners,
By far the best of all,
For dressing up and playing games,
A drink and smelling beaut,
Lack all the basic satisfaction
You get from kiwi fruit.’
