Decided to give the Chunky Soup a miss last night and splash out on a Takeaway (also the name of a Kiwi opera singer).
Not much to choose from.
There's the Minjup caff, but it's staffed by teenagers who think pizzas come out of the freezer and go into the deep fat fryer.
So I called the pizza shop in Blyton -- 16k round trip -- to order their "Italian Deli" (ham, salami, pepperoni, mushroom, olive, capsicum, etc.)
The menu on my fridge had all their "regular" (i.e., non-"gourmet") pizzas at $12 ("large") and $15 ("family").
Twelve bucks is a bit of a stretch, but I thought what-the-hell, exams are over and I deserve a treat.
When I called, they told me they were grading the "regulars" into individual prices and that the Italian was now $16 ("large") and $18.50 ("family").
Could they justify the 33.3333r per cent increase on the "large", asked Sledge naively.
No, they couldn't ... so I cancelled.
Blyton, however, does have good fish and chips -- run by an older pommy bloke who knows one end of a bit of shark from the other and has the (locally) bizarre idea that batter should be crisp and not soggy!
So I ordered from there instead: $7.50 and enough chips left over for breakfast.
Which I will now duly re-heat in the oven.
