Sunday Times 663

Back by popular demand ... the ST blog.
This is the usual disappointment, including a missing clue at 25 and a typo in 8.

Across
1. HONEYSUCKLE. Sweet + take milk.
9 & 15. KATH SHELPER. Producer of the film in question. Anag. Bit unfair to Warwick Thornton.
10. MARSHMALLOW. Rod + Latin "malva", mauve and mallow.
11. IDOL. I'd + Lo (reversed).
14. DOWRIES. OW inside "dries".
16. OILMEN. "Omen" out(side) IL.
17. SHEARS. He of Sgt Pepper fame. (Not Billy Cotton!)
18. SPANISH OMELETTE. Weak connection to 13 + piss weak cryptic def.
19. PROZAC. OZ inside "carp" reversed. The "you" is padding and "about centre" is supposed to signal the reversal and the containment.
21. WEIRDO. "Weir" (pen ... yuk!) + reversal of "ode" with the end chopped off.
22. HARRIER. Double def. Thus missing out on the third possible def: "a person who engages in persistent attacks on others or incursions into their land". Sounds like the Boss Bogan?
23. OARS. (B)oars.
26. BUENOS AIRES. Anag of "airbuses" containing "one" (reversed).
27. ENDS. Double def.
28. CONSOLIDATE. "Con" + "solid" + "ate". Straight-ish charade.

Down
2. OPAL. O + pal.
3. EAST. Est containing A.
4. SAMSON. Obvious.
5. COLORADO SPRINGS. Anag of "corporals dosing". But what is to dose off?
6. LEONES. "On" = working.
7. BANDMASTERS. Crap cryptic def. Should maybe have been linked with 17?
8. CHOLESTEROL. Anag. "Charoot" is a typo for "cheroot". Reminds me of the story about the bloke who couldn't choose between the twins, Anna and Consuela.
12. SOUSAPHONES. Sous + phones around A (Australian?). Another missed link with 7 and 17; the inventor of the instrument being a bandleader.
13. OLLA PODRIDA. Anag. Beans and pork.
14. DELILAH. Hit record by Tom Jones.
15. See 9.
20. CARUSO. Anag of "oars" and CU.
21. WEASEL. W + easel (frame).
24. BIRD. Attempted &lit. BID (call) around R.
25. There isn't one.
