OK, more or less back in the world again; if Minjup counts as part of "the world" which I'm seriously coming to doubt.
This on account of the fact that absolutely nothing has happened here since I last reported on Tuesday.
Hence a brief escape Friday and yesterday to see the Sledgettes and micro-Sledge to relieve the boredom.
Also for another purpose which I will reveal in due course -- see entry for 6th August.

That is, Minjup, like everywhere else in "the world" (?) has been overtaken by the strange events happening in Beijing and some other places I've barely heard of.
Even the pub has been screening the Olympics, despite other channels showing so-called "football".
This is both unheard of and a bit of a worry.
I mean people are glued to peculiar human practices that, at any other time, they wouldn't cross the street to watch and have probably never heard of before.
Things like:
• People trying to go as fast as they can without actually breaking into a run and looking really stupid in the process;
• Girls with no tits trying very hard to show them off by wearing tight costumes and striking unnatural poses (previously known as "the fashion industry");
• Underwater synchronised farting....
Need I go on?

(I didn't catch it, but something called the "women's skulls with cocks" sounded of passing ethno-anatomical interest.)

So the only thing that's sucked me in so far is the Real Football: the only actual world game recognised at the Olympics because it is the only world game -- in logic, there are no surprises.
But I lost interest when Belgium knocked out Italy in the quarters.
This was unfair as Italy were playing football while the Belgians should have all been packed off to the wrestling or the boxing; or, better still, imprisoned on charges ranging from common assault to GBH.

Oh for the lost and heady days of Sydney 2000 when Norway took the gold in the Women's!

I suppose I'll now have to lend my support to the Brazilians.
After all, I don't wear it much these days.
