For some reason in Film class yesterday, we got to talking about radio.
(I think this had to do with soap operas starting in that medium, but my memory is hazy.)
Turns out that all of the class listens to music-only stations, with a few including JJJ on their menus.
When I mentioned my pref for RN or, if the cricket's on, ABC local, I was told in no uncertain terms that these are stations for old people.
(Some mention here of "demographics".)
My only response was: No, they're for intelligent people which is why you lot don't listen.

So it is now my duty to report significant events from the intelligent stations (inc Classic FM).
I begin with the following on the banking crisis in Japan from ABC local (720):

"There's something fishy about Sushi Bank.
"Bonzai Bank is cutting some of its branches.
"Origami Bank has folded.
"And the Sumo Bank has gone belly up".

On a more placatory note: it's worth listening to last week's "Artworks" on RN (19th October).
To my pleasant surprise, I heard one of the most considered discussions of contemporary aesthetics from ... wait for it ... hip-hop artist DJ Spooky (Paul D Miller).
I'm not joking.

Even the usually excruciating "Life Matters" was great yesterday (24th October).
And it was talk-back Friday!
The whole thing was about doing the washing and its history in Australia.
I'm downloading it and sending it to the Prof.
This is obviously of central importance to anything that wants to call itself cultural studies.
