Two cheers for ...

... democracy?

So I clucked up porridge yesterday, having read The Examiner and found the Shire elections were due to close at 4:00pm.
The WA Electoral Commission web site says you can apply to stand as a councillor on line.
But you can't.
You have to make an appointment with the Returning Officer.

Made a date with said person for 3:00pm and went down to the Shire office.
I've never met anyone so obstructive.
She didn't like me and the feeling was mutual.
One of those parasites that wouldn't work in an iron lung.
Tried very hard to dissuade me from standing -- which, of course, only encouraged me more.

There's something foul going on there, I swear.
The RO kept saying she didn't work for the Shire.
When people deny things without any apparent reason for doing so, one tends to get suspicious.
And, if I get elected, I'm going to find out what it is.

I just knew things were bad when she wanted me to edit my "candidate profile" on a Windoze box and I said I had a religious reason not to touch such a thing.

The "profile" hinted at the strong possibility that the Shire is in bed with the developers.
Chucked $80 at her and walked out of the Council Chamber.
Why would they let her use that space?

When I got home, I found her notes had been "accidentally" included in my pack of documents.
